The Other Side of the Coin...
In my last post I pledged to try to find an example of a conservative making an judgment-driven generalization about liberals.
After looking around for a while, doing a few Google searches, I decided to "go where the fish were biting," and headed for www.anncoulter.com. This was an obvious place to look, since Ann is notorious for being outspoken about her dislike of liberals.
So here's a quote from Ann's newest book, How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must) to balance the Bush-haters from yesterday's post:
"The best way to convert liberals is to have them move out of their parents' home, get a job, and start paying taxes."
The problem with Ann's statement is that it's not a commentary on liberal ideology, it's an attack on the PEOPLE who subscribe to it. The Bush-Haters likewise weren't commenting on conservative ideology, just expressing distaste for the PEOPLE who support it.
Ann's quote is somewhat less vicious than the Bush-haters because the "redneck" remark was aimed at the kids in that specific picture, making the attack a much more personal one. However, I'm sure there are examples out there that are equally bad on the conservative side. I'll keep looking.
I'll get to the point in the next post, I promise.
