Kofi Says Full Disclosure Might Hurt UN
A few timely news stories:
"Come Clean Kofi" - www.opinionjournal.com
"Kofi Annan and the Insanity of International Law" - www.townhall.com
"The Senate vs. the U.N." - Chicago Sun Times
Have you ever seen a movie or TV show where some smug, self-important foreigner gets away with heinous crimes by way of diplomatic immunity? Ever fumed at the idea of international representatives letting unpaid parking tickets pile up in their foreign luxury cars because they think the words "No Parking" do not apply to them? Ever find yourself grinding the enamel off of your teeth at the image of a snotty diplomat acting as if they are "above the law?"
If so, then you're probably nauseated by Kofi Annan.
The UN's refusal to cooperate in the US Senate investigation into the corruption surrounding the Oil for Food program has incited in me a similar reaction. In her article, "Come Clean Kofi," Claudia Rosett writes, "Mr. Annan has complained often in recent months about criticism of Oil for Food, denouncing it as a 'campaign' that has 'hurt the U.N.'"
In typical, above-the-law, diplomatically immune fashion, Kofi has proclaimed that scrutiny of his actions is to blame for hurting the UN, not the actions themselves, like a habitual criminal that complains about the police harassing him.
Annan and people of his ilk represent a rising reality that suggests the UN in its current configuration has outlived its effectiveness. The current arsenal of UN power, i.e. writing nasty letters telling people to stop doing things lest they get another letter at a later date, could be handled by any number of staff secretary's offices or collection agencies at a much more affordable price and would carry about as much weight as the seal of the UN.
I expect a day will come soon on which the US and the world must take a hard look at whether this very expensive international body is worth the money we spend on it.

That day can't come soon enough for me. Far as I can tell, the Un was never anything more than a cover for the soon to be OWG anyway. World peace is not even a possibilty until that particular prophesy is completed. This, the only relief I can find in their existence. :)
